Our client, a thriving and highly-regarded early learning centre in inner Melbourne, is seeking a passionate Chef to join their team. This role offers the chance to create nutritious meals for young children in a positive, engaging environment.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for planning and preparing high-quality meals, ensuring that the kitchen environment meets the highest standards of safety, hygiene, and organization. As part of a supportive team, you’ll work closely with the Centre Director to make mealtime a safe and inclusive experience for all children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Nutritious Meals: Plan and cook daily meals, snacks, and teas, considering each child’s age group, dietary needs, cultural, and religious preferences.
- Menu Planning & Feedback: Regularly update and review menus, incorporating feedback from families and staff.
- Supplies & Ordering: Handle weekly and daily food orders, ensure all supplies are on hand, and manage stock levels efficiently.
- Kitchen Hygiene & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and adhere to all safety protocols, including safe food handling and storage.
- Engagement with Families & Children: Build positive relationships with families, share relevant food and nutrition information, and involve small groups of children in simple food preparation activities.
- Team Collaboration: Attend team and parent meetings and contribute to creating a welcoming, collaborative environment for staff and families.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications: Food Safety Supervisor Certificate and a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Skills & Attributes: Strong communicator, flexible, able to multitask, and open to feedback. You should enjoy working in a team and feel passionate about supporting young children’s development and well-being through nutrition.
